Young Women’s Heart Support Group

Adjusting to life after a heart attack, cardiac surgery or other cardiac event is one of life’s most difficult challenges. The Karen Yontz Young Women’s Heart Support Group provides women under the age of 65 years an opportunity to meet other young women who have had recent cardiac surgery or been diagnosed with heart disease. You’ll find understanding and discussion about feelings, fears, coping skills and other topics such as stress management, exercise, nutrition, family and work concerns and more.

Members of the Karen Yontz Young Women’s Heart Support Group also are available to offer emotional support on a person to person basis outside of the support group. These women are willing to share their own personal experiences with heart disease to help assist and support women who have been recently diagnosed with heart disease.

For more information, or to be contacted by a member of the group, please call 414-649-5767.

The group meets every other month from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Karen Yontz Center in Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center (2900 W. Oklahoma Avenue, Milwaukee, WI)

Right from the Heart: ICD Support Group

For individuals with Inplantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICD), their families and friends

An ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) is a life-saving device used to treat heart rhythm abnormalities. The IDC is a surgically placed medical device that monitors the heart rhythm. The ICD will detect a life-threatening heart rhythm problem in the lower chamber (ventricle) of the heart. If the heart rhythm races out of control, the ICD can bring the rhythm back to a normal using a small amount of electrical energy (cardioversion) or a stronger electrical shock (defibrillation). Defibrillation or cardioversion from the ICD is over very quickly but it can be unexpected and painful.

The Right from the Heart support group has been meeting for over 20 years. Facilitated by a cardiac nurse, this group provides an opportunity for participants to share information about living with an ICD. Topics of interest to help participants understand how the ICD works and tips for living with it are occasionally presented by quest speakers.

For more information, or to sign up, please call 414-649-5767

The Right from the Heart group meets the first Wednesday of every other month from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Conference Room at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center (2900 W. Oklahoma Avenue, Milwaukee, WI).
