Lipid Panel (ideal results)

  • Cholesterol: Less than 200
  • LDL ("lousy" cholesterol): Less than 100 if you have known heart disease. Less than 130 if without heart disease
  • HDL ("good" cholesterol): Greater than 40 for men and Greater than 50 for women
  • Triglycerides: Less than 150

Blood Pressure

The latest recommendations based on new federal guidelines prepared by a committee representing 46 federal agencies and health groups, including the American Heart Association.

  • Normal: Below 120/80
  • Prehypertensive: Up to 140/90
  • High: 140/90 or higher

Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a measurement of obesity.

  • Your goal is a BMI 24 or lower
  • Overweight: BMI of 25 - 29.9
  • Obese: BMI of 30 and above

BMI formula: Weight x 703/(in)

For example: if you weigh 125 lbs. and are 64” tall
125 x 703 = 87,875
64 inches squared which is 64 x 64 = 4,096
87,875/4,096 = 21.4 BMI

Blood Glucose

  • Impaired fasting blood glucose: 100 -125 mg/dl on at least 2 separate occasions
  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dl or greater on at least 2 separate occasions
