Hypertension - adopt a healthy lifestyle
Lifestyle changes have shown to reduce blood pressure, enhance the effects of
medication used to treat blood pressure and decrease CVD risk. This includes
quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active,
following a healthy low fat, high fiber, low-sodium (<1 teaspoon per day for
women) eating plan and if you drink alcohol, drink in moderation. For women
daily alcohol consumption should be limited to 1 drink per day (for example 12 oz.
beer, 5 oz wine or 1 oz. of a 100 proof beverage).
